The Museo Cerralbo is a state museum organisationally responsible to the Ministry of Culture Directorate General for Fine Arts and Cultural Property and is protected by a foundation.
Visitors to this house-museum are taken back in time to the way of life of a late 19-century aristocratic family.
The 17th Marquis of Cerralbo, Don Enrique de Aguilera y Gamboa (1845-1922), made a gift of his mansion and collections to the Spanish nation by establishing the Museo Cerralbo, in order that they "always remain together and be used for study by those devoted to science and art".
